Rellenitos de platanos are one of the most common and well-known desserts in the sphere of Guatemala food. It is made from two of most prevalent ingredients in typical food, black beans or frijoles negros and plantains or platanos. The plantains are cut and boiled in water with cinnamon and then mashed into a paste. The paste, once cooled, is shaped with the bare hands into a thick tortilla worked into a bowl shape. The bowl is then filled with a delicious chocolate, black bean, and cinnamon mixture that has been reduced into a thick filling. The filled tortilla is then closed, resembling an egg with a plantain shell and a sweet interior. The rellenitos are then fried and covered with either powdered sugar or honey.
